Despite my goal to start spending less on material items, I've purchased 6 new albums in the past two weeks. Something is wrong. I haven't bought a new music album in months, and then all of a sudden!
When my ex and I first broke up almost a year ago, I was buying at least one new CD a week (yes, CD. I like the tangible disc). That stopped after a few months, and now it has started again. Am I at another crossroad? Music helps me cope with life. It's an out. I can plug in my headphones, or turn up the stereo really loud, and escape the world for a little while. But lyrics can also be very relatable, and cause my own life to be evaluated as if that song is my life in words.
So here's what I've been listening to lately:
The Great Gatsby Soundtrack -- one of the best soundtracks I've heard in a long time. From big band instrumentals, Amy Winehouse remakes, the melodious voices of Lana Del Rey and Florence Welch, to catchy hip hop tunes, it's sure to satisfy almost any music lover.
Michael Buble - To Be Loved -- although I've barely listened to the full album as of yet, it sounds happy! And just like the soulful, playful, crooner Buble that we all know.
City and Colour - The Hurry and the Harm -- I can't get enough of this man. I have been a fan of Dallas Green from the beginning, and he never ceases to amaze me.
Passenger - All The Little Lights -- I went out on a limb purchasing this album, only really knowing one of their songs. But it did not disappoint! It is quite instrumental, and I love that.
Taylor Swift - Fearless -- This album is not new in the music world, but it's still great! It was the only Swift album that I did not actually own, and it's one of my favourites (granted she only has 4 albums, not including Christmas, etc). It is reminiscent of my King's apartment days, which were good times.
Hunter Hayes - Encore -- Yes it's another country album, but honestly give him a listen! This guy plays over 30 instruments, writes, and sings his own music! That alone is impressive. And of course being a young 20-something guy, it's all about love. My summer anthem thus far is his newest song "I Want Crazy". I can't seem to get enough of it.
Hopefully my music spending has ceased for a while, but hey, it's a love of mine. And when you love something, you have to go for it!
J.
